Rhys deals predominantly with serious crime and white collar investigations and prosecutions. He specialises in advising and representing clients involved in regulatory and fraud enquiries initiated by the police, Serious Fraud Office, SOCA and HM Revenue and Customs. He regularly advises clients of risk avoidance in respect of Health and Safety and the recent impact of the Bribery Act and Money Laundering legislation
Rhys also represents clients in serious criminal cases including large drug cases, rape, extradition and murder. Many of these cases have been of national interest. He also undertakes public inquiry roles, advising and representing both families and interested parties in them. He has a number of precedent cases in evolving areas of the law, including that of the successful use of “Sexomnia” as a defence to sexual offences.
He also has experience in both European and international jurisdictional matters, having dealt with clients being investigated in respect of alleged war crimes in Rwanda, as well as suspected fraud involving the UN and the Global Fund. Rhys also represents a number of clients in the music, film, broadcasting and media industries, including dealing with press releases, and has appeared on national television as a legal expert. He regularly represents sports people, including professional footballers, rugby players, and professional extreme climbers and base jumpers.
Rhys has his Higher Rights of Audience and represents clients and in both the Magistrates and Crown Court.
Rhys is a qualified commercial diver, scuba diving and first aid instructor.
