Court and tribunal fees are changing: what does this mean for you?
The Government has announced changes to a number of court and tribunal fees, which are due to take effect from Monday, 13th July 2026.
If you're considering making a court application or starting legal proceedings, these changes may affect the amount you pay to the court. This includes a range of applications relating to:
- Divorce and financial orders,
- Children matters, such as child arrangements orders,
- Probate applications,
- Civil claims and other court proceedings,
- Court of Protection applications,
- Some residential property tribunal cases, including certain leasehold disputes.
While many of the increases are relatively modest, it's helpful to understand the costs involved before taking the next step.
It's also worth remembering that court fees are set by the Government and are separate from your solicitor's legal fees. The Government has also confirmed that the Help with Fees scheme will continue to be available for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
At Owen White Catlin, we believe in providing clear, practical advice and complete transparency when it comes to costs. From the outset, we'll explain any court fees that apply to your matter, discuss your options and ensure you understand the likely costs before any work begins.
