The process of buying and selling a house is more regulated now than ever before. Recent changes in the law seeking to prevent money laundering and the increasingly detailed requirements of mortgage companies have changed the way conveyancers operate. At Owen White & Catlin, our aim is to meet these challenges, while still providing the personal service that our clients value so much.
We provide fixed, up-front fees for our Residential Conveyancing services, meaning you’ll never experience any hidden costs or unexpected add-ons.
Stamp Duty (SDLT) Changes
SDLT abolished for first-time buyers of property up to £300,000. To help those in London and other expensive areas, the first £300,000 of the cost of a £500,000 purchase by all first-time buyers will be exempt with the remaining £200,000 incurring 5% stamp duty.
This reduction takes place immediately in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It will not apply in Scotland unless the Scottish Government decides to follow suit.
